About the App
ShellLog is an iOS app for seashell collectors and beachcombers. Log every shell’s species, condition grade, and catalog number, track cleaning history, organize storage locations in a nested tree, and record the tide, weather, and GPS location of a find. Log a whole beach haul in one sitting, then share it as a card.
All data you save stays on your device. Nothing is sent to external servers.
Features
- Shell Ledger — Species name, family/genus, condition grade (Gem / Extra Fine / Fine / Good / Beach Worn / Dead Collected), photos, and a short episode memo. Every shell gets an auto-numbered catalog entry (SL-0001, SL-0002…). Free up to 15 shells.
- Collected / Purchased / Traded — Record how you got each shell: collection date and beach, or shop/show with price and currency, or a trade.
- Log Another — After saving one shell, keep going. The next entry carries over the beach and date (or the shop and price), so you can log a whole haul in one sitting.
- Tide & Weather Notes — One-tap presets (spring tide, after a storm, low tide, after rain) plus free-text notes.
- GPS Location — Record where you found a shell using your device’s location, and open it in Apple Maps or Google Maps anytime.
- Storage Locations — Shelves, display cases, drawers, and bins in a nested tree, with each shell assigned a home.
- Cleaning History — Log the method, date, and notes each time you clean a shell.
- Tags — Free-form tags with multi-select filtering.
- Share Cards — A single shell portrait, a beach trip haul summary, or a collection milestone, generated as an image you can share anywhere.
- Full Backup (ZIP) — Export all records and photos to a ZIP file, and restore from one — included free.

FAQ
Q. What is “Log Another”?
After you save a shell, you can choose to add another right away. If you were logging a beach find, the next entry starts with the same beach and date already filled in — handy for logging a whole haul from one trip without retyping the details each time.
Q. What are Storage Locations?
Register shelves, display cases, drawers, and bins in a tree structure, then assign each shell to where it actually lives. No more digging through boxes to find one shell.
Q. How does the GPS feature work?
Tap “Use current location” on a shell’s Add Details screen (open it from the shell’s detail page) to record your device’s GPS coordinates, or leave it blank if you’d rather not. Saved coordinates can be opened anytime in Apple Maps or Google Maps. Location is only accessed when you tap that button.
Q. What is a catalog number?
Every shell you log is automatically assigned a catalog number in the form SL-0001, SL-0002, and so on — no manual numbering needed.
Q. Can I back up or transfer my collection?
Yes. Go to Settings → Export with photos (ZIP) to save all your shells, storage locations, and photos as a single file. Use Restore from ZIP to add them back in — existing records are never overwritten.
Q. Where is my data stored?
Everything is saved locally on your iPhone. No uploads to the cloud or external servers.
Q. Can I purchase Pro anytime?
Yes. Open Settings in the app to purchase at any time. It’s a one-time purchase — no recurring fees.
Q. How do I restore a previous Pro purchase?
Tap Restore Purchases in Settings. Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.
Q. Can I sync across multiple iPhones or iPads?
Not at this time. Data is stored locally on each device only. Use the ZIP backup feature to move your collection to another device.

Q. 「もう1件登録」とはどんな機能ですか？
貝殻を1件保存した直後に、続けてもう1件登録できる機能です。採集品の場合、次の入力にはビーチ名と日付があらかじめ入力された状態で始まるため、同じトリップで拾った分をまとめて登録するときに、毎回同じ内容を入力し直す手間がありません。
Q. 保管場所管理とはどんな機能ですか？
棚・ディスプレイケース・引き出し・収納ボックスをツリー構造で登録し、貝殻ひとつひとつに実際の保管場所を紐づけられる機能です。「あの貝殻どこに仕舞ったっけ」を防げます。
Q. GPS機能はどう使いますか？
貝殻の詳細ページから開く「詳細を追加」画面で「現在地を記録」をタップすると、端末のGPS座標が記録されます（不要であれば空欄のままでも構いません）。記録した座標はいつでもAppleマップ／Googleマップで確認できます。位置情報はこのボタンをタップしたときのみ利用されます。
Q. カタログ番号とは何ですか？
登録した貝殻には、SL-0001、SL-0002…という形式でカタログ番号が自動的に割り振られます。手動での採番は不要です。
Q. コレクションのバックアップや引き継ぎはできますか？
できます。「設定」→「写真込みで書き出す（ZIP）」から、貝殻・保管場所・写真をすべて1つのファイルとして保存できます。「ZIPから復元」から復元でき、既存のデータが上書きされることはありません。
Q. 保存したデータはどこに保管されますか？
すべてあなたのiPhone内（端末ローカル）に保存されます。クラウドや外部サーバーへのアップロードは行いません。
Q. Proはいつでも購入できますか？
はい。アプリ内の「設定」画面からいつでもご購入いただけます。買い切りのため、一度購入すれば追加費用なくずっとご利用いただけます。
Q. 以前購入したProを復元するには？
「設定」画面内の「購入を復元」から復元できます。同じApple IDでサインインした状態でお試しください。
Q. 複数のiPhoneやiPadで同期できますか？
現在はローカル保存のみで、端末間の自動同期には対応していません。ZIPバックアップ機能を使って別の端末へコレクションを移行できます。
