By requiring a Name, the system ensures that every entry in your library is identifiable. The Maker field is particularly important for potters who use commercial glazes, as it distinguishes between similar names from different brands. Color notes and Notes provide the qualitative data that a simple photo might miss, such as the “feel” of the surface or specific application quirks.

Why the glaze library is separate from the work record

One of the most important decisions in designing a pottery tracker is the separation of the Glaze Master list from the individual Work records. While it might seem easier to simply type “Blue Celadon” into the notes for a specific bowl, this approach creates significant long-term management problems.
